Client Love
“The group works with a professional, warm and open approach…”
I highly recommend Balanced Beginnings Doulas. The group works with a professional, warm and open approach, helping their clients to have the best experience possible, whatever that looks like for each client. They support both allopathic and integrative medicines, allowing for Western and Eastern philosophies to come together. Having been a labor and delivery nurse prior to my being an acupuncturist, I always recommend a doula to those planning a hospital birth. I send those I care about and work with to Balanced Beginnings Doulas.

“I am immeasurably impressed by the dedication, skill, and insight that this team offers the moms and families…”
As a specialist in postpartum depression prevention and treatment, I am consistently collaborating with other professionals in the community when supporting moms. Having a doula at a birth and/or postpartum is a proven way to reduce symptoms of emotional distress postpartum and, because of this, I have had the honor or working with Lisa and her team on numerous occasions. I am immeasurably impressed by the dedication, skill, and insight that this team offers the moms and families who they support, and I wholeheartedly trust their professionalism and skill in providing doula care. There have been occasions when Lisa and Balanced Beginnings Doulas have played a major role in the reduction of postpartum depression and anxiety symptoms. Moms are more likely to be emotionally healthy because of them.

“The Balanced Beginnings Doulas begin their relationships with their clients long before the labor process begins.”
The Balanced Beginnings Doulas begin their relationships with their clients long before the labor process begins. The doulas do things with their clients that establish a familiarity and trust that is invaluable during labor and after the baby is born. Perhaps that is a shopping trip to purchase the “mama-must-haves” and/or the “baby-must-haves”. Perhaps that is a hike in our foothills. Perhaps that is a trusted referral to a community professional. The “sisterhood” that the doulas establish with their clients is critical to supporting the birth of a child. The trust is also what makes inviting one of the Balanced Beginnings Doulas into ones home a familiar comfort and not an imposition.

Over the years, I’ve seen Lisa work with numerous patients and families from birth through adolescence; she is reliable, responsible and wholeheartedly dedicated to any task she undertakes. We’re lucky to have Balanced Beginnings Doulas in our community; their kind, loving spirit and resourcefulness benefits so many young families. I recommend their services with absolute confidence.

“When Sarah arrived, it was like a new freshness and hope filled my house. ”
When Sarah arrived, it was like a new freshness and hope filled my house. In addition to cooking great meals and completing household chores, Sarah found a way of sharing her knowledge without making me feel silly or incompetent (I was not putting diapers on correctly until Sarah helped me with that!). Instead, she always made me feel empowered and capable. She was a lifesaver to me!

“Haley was incredibly helpful, with practical things to help us through the process, as well as with mental/emotional support.”
Working with Haley was absolutely one of the highlights of our daughter’s birth. Haley was incredibly helpful, with practical things to help us through the process, as well as with mental/emotional support. She was our rock! I wouldn’t hesitate to trust her with the care of my family or friends. She combines a very helpful blend of knowledge and caregiving. When we have another child, she will be there with us again.

“Jamie had the courage to face our pain and walk alongside us through our sorrow, anger, and confusion.”
Jamie had been our nanny and doula for six years when our family suffered a tragic loss. Although Jamie had never been through a loss like this before, she was guided by her intuition and empathy. She showed up at our house, day after day. She cooked for us, comforted our other children, cried with us, laughed with us, made art with us, and helped us heal. Her overnight support was crucial during this season in our lives. Jamie had the courage to face our pain and walk alongside us through our sorrow, anger, and confusion.

“I have observed Lisa’s valuable contribution to our families in helping moms cope with the uncertainty that may accompany pregnancy.”
Lisa’s expertise is coupled with compassion and skill in her work with women and their families. Pregnancy is a special time of nurturing for mom and baby, yet often anxiety and stress accompany pregnancy for many reasons. I have observed Lisa’s valuable contribution to our families in helping moms cope with the uncertainty that may accompany pregnancy.

“We felt like we had an advocate, someone who was there to make sure that the entire experience was a positive one…”
We decided to hire Lisa after the recommendation from friends who had a wonderful experience with her. Having her there for the birth of our son made the entire process beautiful and special. Her expertise and support put both of us at ease and made us feel much more comfortable through the whole process. We felt like we had an advocate, someone who was there to make sure that the entire experience was a positive one, and I don’t know how we would have gotten through the birth without her. She especially helped take the pressure off my husband and eased his mind when things got tough. It was also great to have Lisa help with the baby after birth – I felt completely comfortable leaving him with her long before I would have hired a sitter.
I have friends who have worked with other doulas and none of them offered the full range of support and services that Balanced Beginnings Doulas does. After all the hours Lisa spent with us, we feel that she is worth every penny – and we would actually pay triple the price for everything she does. We would never consider having another baby without having Lisa with us the whole way.

“We were able to rest easy at night knowing she was caring for our newborn while allowing us to catch up on sleep”
One of the most difficult parts of having a newborn is their erratic or non-existent sleep patterns. Our son was only 13 months old when our daughter was born so we knew we would require help at night with our newborn so we could be the best versions of ourselves during the day. Sarah allowed us exactly this. She fed, changed and most importantly comforted our newborn daughter at night as needed. Sarah helped to establish healthy sleep habits and sleep schedules for our baby. We were able to rest easy at night knowing she was caring for our newborn while allowing us to catch up on sleep. Worth every penny we spent!

“I am so glad you were there for Ava’s birth”
Kristen, Thank you so much for everything. I appreciated you being there for my preterm labor and having a backup when the timeline changed. I am so glad you were there for Ava’s birth. We are all really going to miss you!

“On top of helping me care for my babies, allowing me to get sleep, helping with light housework and cooking healthy meals, they were there to listen and give much-needed advice.”
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Balanced Beginnings Doulas! They came to me when my twin girls were 9 weeks old, and I was most overwhelmed – my daughters were premature and quite small; they had feeding troubles, terrible reflux, and issues with nursing. On top of helping me care for my babies, allowing me to get sleep, helping with light housework and cooking healthy meals, they were there to listen and give much-needed advice. Their care and positive attitudes gave me the confidence I needed. One of my dearest wishes was to nurse my babies. Breastfeeding did not get off to a good start in the hospital, and I was terribly sad to think I may not ever be able to nurse my babies. They worked tirelessly with me to help that wish come true – their encouragement helped me to not lose hope. By the end of their 6 weeks working with us, both of my babies were nursing happily!

“She is very knowledgeable about a variety of comfort measures during labor and birth…””
Haley was our doula for the birth of our first born son. We birthed at Boulder Community Hospital and Haley was with us every step of the way. She is very knowledgeable about a variety of comfort measures during labor and birth and was a god send for both myself and my husband during our whirlwind 3 hour birth. Whether it was rebozo method, counter pressure, essential oils, nutrition and everything in between, she knew what to do and when. What I found most comforting with Haley is that she was so open minded to my birth plan. I needed someone who would be non judgmental yet help me understand the different options available during labor and delivery. She was perfect. My husband appreciated the support as well and felt Haley was such a helpful presence in the birth room. She even helped set up a meal train with our friends and family after birth. Could not recommend her highly enough!

“I am so grateful to have had Mary by my side during the birth of my second child”
I am so grateful to have had Mary by my side during the birth of my second child. After a traumatic birth experience with my first, I was working through lots of uncertainty and trauma along with dealing with high blood pressure and anxiety. Mary’s loving support, gentleness and advocacy helped me to overcome so much and ultimately have an informed and redemptive hospital birth experience. Her experience and ease as a mother of 4 boys is inspiring! I now consider her a friend and love her spirit.
Thank you, Mary!!

“She had great advice for setting good sleep habits and getting our little guys to nurse.”
From the first time we met Jamie, we knew that she would be a great addition to our growing family! Before our identical twin boys arrived, Jamie visited us at our house and discussed how she works with families. Her flexibility, expertise and positive attitude put us at ease.
Once the babies arrived I had 100% trust in Jamie. We had her help us 3 nights a week for nearly 3 months. She offered her insights and experience when we asked for her advice, but never directed us to do things a certain way. Our babies slept in their own room from the first night home, and she never made us feel like this was a bad parenting decision. She had great advice for setting good sleep habits and getting our little guys to nurse. She showered us with encouragement and showered our boys with love.
I fully credit Jamie’s support of our sleep and eating schedule for my ability to get much needed sleep to maintain my sanity in those early weeks… and my partner, too! I was expecting utter chaos overnight, but Jamie kept us on track and helped us stretch feedings when okayed by our pediatrician.
As a first time mom, I would not be where I am today (boys are 6 months, are great eaters and awesome sleepers) without Jamie. I feel so indebted to everything she did for us–she even came early some nights to give us an opportunity to go out to dinner and feel somewhat normal!
The amount of support Jamie gave us was so valuable. I’m so grateful we found her! And she’s a great cook!

“Thanks to Jenna, I can honestly say that my natural birth was a magical experience!”
Jenna has an intuitive gift of immediately understanding where people are coming from. She is calm and provided a priceless experience during my birth – “peace” of mind. I can’t say enough about her compassion and support in the weeks leading up to my due date. I truly don’t know how I would’ve gotten through birth without her. Thanks to Jenna, I can honestly say that my natural birth was a magical experience!

“Marie is a real gem and excellent value given everything she provides families.”
I was referred to Marie at Balanced Beginnings through Lisa Waldo, my birth doula. As a single mom triple-feeding a newborn I was in a very vulnerable state when I sought Marie’s help. She leapt right in and found the perfect balance of taking care of me, my baby and basic and complex tasks that needed to get done AND asking for my preferences and respecting my wishes. She is also an incredible, fast and adaptable cook and has a wealth of knowledge for all your postpartum needs. I encourage anyone looking for support before and after birth to interview and hire Marie. Get on her calendar early and consider booking more hours than you think you might need! Marie is a real gem and excellent value given everything she provides families.

“I couldn’t ask for a more helpful and respectful person”
Kristen did an amazing job. I couldn’t ask for a more helpful and respectful person. She helped bring our daughter into the world in the most beautiful and peaceful way.

“Heather made us feel comfortable immediately through her commitment to health and safety.”
When you have a new baby as first-time parents, especially during COVID, it can be scary to hand him or her over to a stranger in your home. However, Heather made us feel comfortable immediately through her commitment to health and safety. She has a calming touch and could settle our daughter instantly even as a fussy newborn. She sang to her and could get her to sleep so quickly. She also helped us work out her schedules as she was getting older. Heather would recommend schedules, stretch nights and help get our daughter sleeping through the night at 2 months. She was our sounding board for many items relating to our baby and specific milestones. She made us aware of apps to use and tricks to help with nap time during the day. We worked with Heather for the first three months of our Daughter’s life and will definitely be working with Heather for our future children. She has become a special person in both our and our baby’s life!

“We honestly don’t know how we would’ve made it through this past year without Kali’s genuine care and support.”
Kali has been an invaluable support person for our entire family. She started with our family as our night doula when our daughter was 1.5 weeks old, seamlessly integrating herself into a routine with overnight support. We felt an immediate connection with her and instantly trusted her with her calm but confident nature. She helped us navigate a really difficult phase of extreme acid reflux with our newborn and helped see us through to a solution, providing incredible emotional support during that time. She’s won over our 3 year old son as well and both kids absolutely love when Kali comes over for a date night. We honestly don’t know how we would’ve made it through this past year without Kali’s genuine care and support.
